explain to cadets about his career and the excitement of 'Life with the Red Arrows', where as a member of the famous aerobatic team's ground crew had been part of the 'Dye Team' responsible for ensuring the aircraft are equipped to produce their characteristic red white and blue smoke, and serving as 'Blue 3' during their tour of North America. His talk was illustrated with a selection of pictures and videos, many taken from the back seat of the display team aircraft.
WEST YORKSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE
A big thank you to Crew Commander Daniel Inman from Mirfield Fire Station who joined the Squadron's Virtual Meeting to talk about the work of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. His presenta- tion to cadets included reflections on his service
as a firefighter and a virtual tour of the fire station looking at and demonstrating various pieces of kit such as firefighters' clothing and fire engines and what equipment is stowed on hand ready for use in emergencies. He also talked about the recruitment and training of firefighters and responded to a lively question and answer session; one of the best and most engaging evenings cadets have experienced since the suspension of face-to-face activities in March.
BEHIND THE SCENES AT RIAT
Wing Commander Ian Revell, aside from his RAFAC role as Officer Commanding the Qualified Aerospace
Instructor Course, has been leading the air traffic control for the Royal International Air Tattoo for many years. He gave an excellent presentation to cadets which explained the history of the event, the background planning involved in making the event happen – including the intricacies of getting aircraft arrivals in the right sequence for their designated ‘parking spaces’ on the ground through the planning and implementing of a programme of flying displays for each day of the Tattoo to scheduling aircraft departures after the end of the event.
His talk was illustrated with a wide variety of pictures and videos of the airfield at RAF Fairford, home to RIAT, and aircraft displays.
