 16 Fleet Reports
                                                                         CADET LEADER PASS THE HELM
Olly Alexander passes the Cadet Leaders Baton to James Noyce and gives us his Cadet Haul Down report below. Our grateful thanks go to Olly for his enthusiasm and drive to make things happen for all...
With a great mix of enthusiastic parents, capable session leaders and energetic cadets the time was right for James Noyce to take the helm from me. Chris Spencer-Chapman will continue to be the focal point for the Tuesday sessions.
It is wonderful that Cadets and Junior sailing within SYC continue to play a significant role in the club’s sailing activity
and profile. With over 100 regular sailors and a healthy waiting list, Cadets remains an important component of SYC and an accessible route into the sport for children and their families from within the local community.
Over the last 5 years we have seen a steady increase in numbers, the replacement of worn-out boats with new and a healthy pull through of cadets into the Medium Handicap series. SYC representation on the RS Tera, RS Feva and Laser National and International competition circuits, including RYA and National Squad selections, has been a particular highlight that we can all be proud of.
After 4 years at the helm, the time is right for a rotation of Cadet Fleet Captain. I am delighted that James has now taken the lead. He grew up with the estuary at the bottom of his garden and when not getting his feet wet with Saturday cadets, he can be seen racing in a RS400 or cruising the creeks in his family’s classic Cove clinker launch. James will be assisted by Andrew Groves and the rest of the team. It is the team approach to delivery, both on the water and behind the scenes, including huge efforts by Jayne, Jules and Clare, that contributes directly to the success
of Cadets. I cannot thank enough all those that have worked with Chris S-C, myself and others to ensure that what we deliver is fun, constructive and safe. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time!
Delivered by parents, valued by the club and appreciated by
the cadets, I hope our fine tradition of introducing youngsters to sailing in a safe and controlled environment continues, as it always has done, with the enthusiasm of all and a sharp eye for safety. Yours in sailing, Olly Alexander
