Theatre makeover
   The newly refurbished Stahl Theatre opened its new season in late September with a performance of Henry Purcell’s
The Fairy Queen. This was also an opportunity to celebrate the theatre’s
recent makeover, which includes a glamorous new foyer redesign with
a licensed bar, reupholstered seating in the auditorium, and new energy- efficient LED lighting for creative special effects. All this makes for a wonderful setting for a night out with friends and family.
The first staged production this year featured musicians and singers under the direction
of Nick Warden, with dance choreography by Caroline Rees. The performance featured

sections from five masques of Purcell’s semi-opera, with the chorus rotating as soloists to take on roles from the story of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A company of four dancers enacted the fairies, accompanied by an orchestra of strings, recorders, and harpsichord. The production was a stunning display of musical artistry from all the performers and provided a wonderful opportunity to bring people from across the
community together to raise a glass to the Stahl. The Stahl Theatre is open to the whole
