DAY
A new event for the RSYC, held in mid-April and run by Guy & Zoë Darby, who have organised these days before, elsewhere. The racing area was between Calshot Spit and Lepe Spit.
The format for the day was 3 Practice Starts, 2 Windward/Leeward Races and then a ‘Round-the-Cans Race’ to finish the day. The weather conditions were ideal with wind speeds of between 8-12 knots and sunshine.
There were 12 participants, 8 Contessa 32s in Group 1 and 3 boats in Group 2, ranging in size from 30 to 42 feet. So the Race Team managed 12 Starts!
The Racing Practice Day is a great way of improving a boat’s performance, before the main racing season, even if it has already been out in a Frostbite/Warm Up Series.
