BEAULIEU
ANNUAL
REGATTA
The Club’s second Beaulieu Annual Regatta was held over the Weekend of 17 & 18 June.
The weather forecast was perfect, for bright sunshine and light winds.
The keelboat racing, out on The Solent, was scheduled for 2 Windward/Leeward Races
on the Saturday and a ‘Round-the-Cans’
race on the Sunday. On Saturday, there was never enough of a breeze for racing, so it was abandoned. The Fleet then headed to Gins,
to seek refreshment at the Bar and enjoy the Regatta BBQ!
At Gins, there was a range of both shoreside and on the water activities, admirably organised by Tina Daniel and Virginia Boyle. These activities included Races for Rowing, Kayaks, SUPs ~ and a Duck Race. At the Slipway, there was a Crabbing Competition and on the lawn Quoits and Jenga. Finally, there was a Tug of War, the Young against the Old, the latter winning!
On Sunday the sun again shone brightly
but the sea was like a mirror. The patience of the RMT of Guy & Zoë Darby, again using their Contessa 32 Ripple of Kyle as Committee Boat, paid off; nearly 2 hours after the scheduled Warning Signal and just 3 minutes before the cut-off time, there was enough wind to start the Regatta Fleet’s ’Round-the- Cans’ Race.
Winner: Sailfish; 2nd Azygos; and 3rd Now or Never.
