EDITORIAL
At the time of writing, the world was enduring the biggest challenge ever since WW2 as we were compelled to readjust our lives to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. As a consequence we have had to cancel many of our forthcoming events including, the RAVC Council meeting on 17 April 20, and the Officers’ Club annual dinner which would have been held at North Luffenham on Friday 24 April 20. The RAVC Reunion planned for Saturday 27 June 20 is also cancelled. Assuming we return to some normality, we are considering holding the Reunion and the Officers Club Dinner in late September 20. More information will be sent out separately and will also be published on the RAVC Association website.
We welcome two new RSMs in this issue, first with WO1 RSM Jody Honeywood who is the RSM of 1 Military Working Dog Regiment and was also appointed as the Rep Sergeant Major for the RAVC (formally known as the Corps RSM RAVC). The Defence Animal Training Regiment (DATR) welcomed WO1 (RSM) Angie Speer who assumed her appointment in late 2019. You will be able to read about RSM Speer in this edition.
I am sure you will be pleased to read about the visit of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan when they met our RAVC Training Team who were training our Pakistani colleagues at the time. Mr Graham Eustace who recently joined the Association as a Honorary member has contributed an article on the history of the RAVC over the years and being a keen photographer, he has also contributed a series of videos on the RAVC which is well worth perusing.
The RHQ RAVC which is part of the Army Medical Services RHQ at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst has had two office moves since our last edition and I am presently sat on the second floor at Robertson House looking out to a wonderful view of the sports field on a calm Spring day as I write this editorial.
We are once again most grateful for the articles that everyone has contributed to this edition of Chiron Calling and we especially thank Captain Vicky Phillips (Adjutant 1 MWD Regt) and Captain Ali Guzowski (Adjutant DATR) for their effort in collating the articles from the Regiments.
The closing date for articles for the Autumn edition is Friday 2 October 20. Please forward your articles to my Hotmail account, keeping the images separate from the article. Thank you for your cooperation.
Finally, I would like to draw the attention of our readers who can access the magazine on line, but have not received their hard copy for a while. The RHQ went through an exercise about 18 months ago in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 when we had to reduce the number of files held at the RHQ. The file of anyone who had not been in touch with the Corps or who had not been an active member for some while had to be archived until they either reinstated their position or otherwise. As many Chiron Calling magazine were also being returned, we had to reduce the waste in P&P. However, past editions of Chiron Calling can be read on line by visiting the RAVC Association website, and if you would like us to reinstate you file and would prefer a hard copy of the magazine, simply drop us a line.
