This year the branch decided to choose the Sunday after Easter for its Corps Day Service. This meant that we were able to influence the choice of ‘Grey and Scarlet’ for the church flowers.
As in the past we joined the congregation of St Lawrence Church, Upwey, and in the congregation was a lady who had been lucky enough to be chosen as a recipient of the 2018 Maundy Thursday money. For the last two years Her Majesty has carried out this duty at St George’s Chapel, Windsor rather than travel around the country. We were fascinated to not only be shown the money (given to 92 men and 92 women this year) but we were told about the meaning of all aspects of this ceremony. It is a more modern approach to the original washing the feet of the poor by the giving of money specially minted for the year. Also, in the past, every recipient was given a piece of cloth from the Queen’s robe to bring luck. This has been replaced by the giving of a £5.00 and 50p coin.
After a fascinating time listening to this amazing woman, we walked to the Wishing Well where we were joined for lunch by the vicar and his wife. This restaurant has a wonderful garden where the source of the River Wey bubbles up from the ground. The weather was kind to us so we were able to walk off our lunch with a walk around the garden.
On 23 June twelve of us met up for a day out in Bath. There was a conducted tour around No. 1 Royal Crescent in Bath. Following that there was free time to do what we chose before all meeting up for afternoon tea at the Hilton Hotel with a glass

of bubbly. It was a hot day and most enjoyable.
An Association member, Marie Walmsley (nee Kenworthy) is trying to locate an Army nurse who she thinks was called Barbara and they did Part 2 midwifery training together in Kent in 1969. They were on the district in Ashford in Kent and
the people they lodged with had dogs.
If you are that person or if you know Barbara’s whereabouts
please contact Marie Walmsley at: mewalmsley66@gmail. com.
