Finally, to add his thoughts the Editor received a contribution from Sergeant Alex Wilson of 250 (Halifax) Squadron of South and West Yorkshire Wing, which has been included here.
Throughout my time
on the camp I had the
chance to take part in
many new and exciting
experiences. The activity for my first full day was Adventure Training, the instructors had a thrilling course laid out for us which comprised of jumps, ramps and more where they taught us mountain bike skills in perpetration for an hour long bike ride through some of the training area. This saw my group go up and down some steep gradients which was extended fun but definitely got your heart racing.
My second day comprised of fieldcraft for my flight, we went between 4 stations learning essential skills like camouflage and concealment, tent building and tactical skills; overall it was an extremely exiting day! The next day was rock climbing, archery and clay target shooting. In the morning my group took part in abseiling from two points from a climbing tower making for an amazing experience getting to
Overall my time was brilliant and alongside these activities I got to make plenty of new friends and it was certainly nice to be back to going on camps post COVID!
learn how to properly descend from very high places. Archery followed shortly after with us practicing our technique and then playing the pizza making game, unfortunately after an hour my group only ended up with burned bread!
The next two days comprised of many theory and practical activities such as leadership, team building exercises and aviation. In aviation our group got the chance to fly a Hawk around the Mach Loop and experience gliding, helicopter and jet flight in virtual reality showing off the potential of new technology in the air cadets and making for a very fun day. Overall my time was brilliant and alongside these activities I got to make plenty of new friends and it was certainly nice to be back to going on camps post COVID!
In addition to the stories above the Editor also selected a number of pictures of cadets and instructors from North Region and both Yorkshire and The Humber Wings, seen here participating in some of the Adventure Training activities.
