 Inter-Nursing Services Tennis Tournament 2017
The 2017 Inter-Nursing Services Tennis Tournament was hosted by the PMRAFNS at RAF Halton. We were delighted to be joined by the QARNNS this year to enjoy a two day competition consisting of men’s and women’s singles, women’s and mixed doubles. In the first round a new member of the team, Pte Mollie Green represented the QARANC in the women’s singles against the QARNNS with a convincing win of 2 sets to 0. On the adjacent court Pte Tevin Gama represented the QARANC in the men’s singles against the PMRAFNS with another convincing win of 2 sets to 0. A great start to the tournament. A quick break for lunch and then sadly due to lack of QARNNS players the QARANC went straight to the final of the mixed doubles against the PMRAFNS. This was a nail-biting game to watch with some great tennis being played, but Capt Simon Roberts and LCpl Lauren Middlemiss were able to hold their nerves and win the game ending the day in a strong position with the QARANC winning all three of their matches.
On day two we were joined by the VIPs. The first round was the women’s singles finals: QARANC vs. PMRAFNS. This proved to be a very enjoyable game to watch with some great tennis. Pte Mollie Green fought well but it was a well-deserved win for the PMRAFNS. The men’s singles final was next to play: QARANC vs QARNNS. Pte Tevin Gama played an impressive game with another convincing win. The women’s doubles final was the last match of the day and Capt Bella Scott and LCpl Middlemiss proved a formidable partnership. There was some excellent tennis played by both teams and it was a close and exciting match to end the tournament, but the QARANC proved unbeatable and were overall

victors. The umpires and the support from the crowd gave a real buzz to the tournament and it was a fantastic event, which resulted in the QARANC being crowned as the Inter- Nursing Services Tennis Champions of 2017. Everyone who participated worked exceptionally hard and is grateful to RAF Halton for hosting such a successful tournament. It proved to be a brilliant new experience, and I am looking forward to next year’s tournament already and to retaining the trophy. As a great way to meet new people and play in a friendly environment, I would recommend this opportunity to anyone who would like to learn to play or who already plays.
