It is mid-May, and we are enjoying unusually warm weather. Most plants are doing well, and allotments are buzzing with keen gardeners tending their plots. What a great sight!
However, many sites are still under threat of being lost to developers. It is very important to keep allotments going and make sure that they all become Assets of Community Value.
I had the pleasure of being invited to attend the AGM of one of our new Allotment Association Members. On a damp but warm Sunday I travelled to Northchurch Allotment Association, near Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. It was great to see many enthusiastic members, all with different ways
of tending their plots and growing. Many exciting ideas were suggested, especially on the social front. I hope that I will be invited back.
I have received notification that theft and vandalism is on the up again in our

region. It is sad that personal property is not safe. However, the best advice is to not leave valuable tools or equipment on your plots. Any tools, that are left in sheds, should be security marked with your post code and also take photos
of any tools or equipment kept on the allotment.
As you know, we do not currently have a secretary for our region. If you are interested in taking on this role, please contact me and we can have a chat about the position.
Let us hope that this summer is good for all gardeners and for the health of everyone.
Please support our region and help it grow stronger.
