                                NAS London Region
  London Allotment Officers Forum
In February the NAS London Region were very pleased to host a Zoom London Allotment Officers Forum. This was the first to be held in the name of the (new) NAS London Region and followed an unavoidable gap due to well-known circumstances.
The attendance was very good and we were heartened by the apologies received from non- attendees due to unavoidable clashes. We all appreciate that the Local Authority Allotment Officer is usually holding down more than one role and often working alone with little clerical support. In fact, one of the aims of the NAS London Region is to offer and provide any
help we can to ease the burden on allotment officers.
It was interesting and revealing to hear the exchanges between different boroughs and officers as they were able to discuss matters in a relaxed forum. As ever in the allotment world no two situations are ever the same!
Several onward initiatives emerged which we are following up right now.
It was agreed by all that the meeting had been useful and that the programme should become a regular event. The next forum is planned for early autumn and invitations will be circulated in good time. As all NAS Regions now have their own Pro Zoom accounts, it was decided that the next London Region Forum will again be conducted online.
We look forward to even more London Officers participating.
reading list?
We would like to start with a
quarterly reading/watching/listening recommendation in this report. In
fact, we have already begun in the previous edition with the strong recommendation of Dr. Dave Goulson’s most recent book – “Silent Earth – the insect apocalypse”.
It is now several months since I urged you to buy, read and spread this book. I do hope that some of you have done just that?
In this issue I would like to suggest
a book first published in 2014 – why does that seem such a long time ago? ‘A GREEN and PLEASANT LAND – How England’s Gardeners fought the Second World War’ is entertaining, illuminating, interesting, superbly researched and good fun. Written by Ursula Buchan, it only costs £9.99 in paperback and is
a great read for anyone interested in allotments.
You will be reading this (fingers crossed) from the last pages of the Allotment Magazine - thank you. Now that you have read the magazine, would you please consider passing it on to a fellow plotholder?
We have the technology to view and download for free – but I am sure that I
am not the only one who still likes to feel the pages. The more allotment holders read the ‘House’ Magazine the better.
Please let me have your reading or listening suggestions for the next issue - an appropriate poem would also be welcome.
My contact details are at the front of this magazine.
