Thanks to the hard work by the West Midlands NAS team - with a special mention for John Outhwaite, and the additional resources from River Street Events, the 2019 National Allotment Society stand at the show at the NEC was a resounding success.
The vegetable beds looked glorious with their combination of food and flowers, and the Let’s Talk Allotments stage was extremely well-attended. Again, many thanks to the speakers who gave up their time to share their knowledge with the eager gardeners. Talks ranged from Composting, No-dig cultivation, seed sowing, tips for busy and thrifty growers and those with limited space, vegetable history and exotic vegetables, to a double-act from our President and the Northern Gardener: “The rough and the smooth of allotment gardening”. Our volunteers and staff answered queries around allotments and growing with hundreds of visitors, and we recruited many new members.
