Best Kept Allotment Plot Competition
Leicester Allotments and Gardens
Council held their annual Best Kept Plot competition in July; the winner received the Albert Thornhill Memorial Trophy. Thirteen societies entered their two best plots to be judged. The guest judge this year was Mr Trevor Matthews, Life Vice President of the National Allotment Society. The judge had a difficult task this year with the hot weather but the standard of the plots entered has been improving every year, not just quality but also the number of plots that were of this high standard.
In third place was Mr Peter Beck of Aylestone Allotment and Leisure Gardeners
on Whittier Road, achieving 161 points out of 200. Peter was last year’s winner too.
Second Place Best Kept Plot with 163 points was awarded to Mr Steven Callis of Belgrave Allotment Society, Uxbridge Road site who was the 2014 winner.
First place with 165 points was Mr Chris Nicholson of the Leicester City Permanent Allotment Society site on Rosamund Avenue. Chris was third last year.
An allotment open day at the Rosamund Avenue site (LE3 2GN) with a chance to view the winning plot was arranged for Saturday 11th August with the presentation of the trophy at 12.00 noon.
