42 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards
SPS Detachment
As for all it has been a busy year for the Detachment at 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards. Several OTX’s combined with Adventurous Training, success in the sporting arena and Team Cohesion events has ensured that life at Robertson barracks has been enjoyable to say the least.
Having deployed to Kuwait, Denmark and the USA personnel from the Detach- ment have had the opportunity to test themselves in various conditions while also taking time to experience the cultural differences that these locations have to offer. Pte Hill took the time to participate in a traditional dance in Kuwait while Pte Limbu decided to embrace the Cavalry lifestyle to its fullest and enjoy his first horse riding experience in the USA.
Capt Huntley, Cpl Cooper, Cpl Umerah and LCpl Thornton put in a stellar perfor- mance during the Triple Crown Challenge. The training programme delivered by Cpl Cooper in the build up ensured that the team were well prepared leading to them achieving maximum points for the March element of the March and Shoot. Overall, the team finished in the top third of the 75 teams which entered the competition. Under the guidance of the new FSA SSgt Jones the team are looking forward to

entering the Military Skills competition in the next edition of the Triple Crown Challenge.
Mixed in with the busy schedule the Det has ensured that it continues to take advantage of the opportunities that the Army has to offer. A Multi Activity training package to Brecon in South Wales and visits to the Climbing Centre, Escape Rooms and exploring the local area on bike have been enjoyed by many. Several personnel in the Det have taken the opportunity to participate in sport, this has seen both Cpl Cooper and Sgt Raikoso represent the Corps in Athletics and Volleyball respectively and Pte Limbu being awarded Sports Colours
for Football.
As expected Det has seen a turnover of personnel, all of whom left with our best wishes. Surprisingly this year has been the addition of our own pair of “Ugly Sisters”, WO2 Farr and Cpl Bain both thoroughly enjoyed their roles in the pantomime put on for the Dereham branch of the Scout Association.
