Region Report
Seeds delivered and potatoes delivered, but, as I have “fingers to the keypad” we have just suffered Storms Dudley and Eunice, and Storm Franklin is
now on its way out. Storm Dudley only appeared to cause minor damage, mainly to the felt on shed roofs; in many areas in the South, the damage caused by Storm Eunice was far more severe. The power of strong winds cannot be underestimated. It is unbelievable
how even a greenhouse frame, devoid of glass, can become distorted by
the wind. It even has a technique to sufficiently flex Perspex panels in greenhouses, so they just pop out! If anyone was considering whether to replace an aging shed, Storm Eunice made the decision for them!
On a more cheerful note, snowdrops have been in bloom for a few weeks, daffodils are flowering, broad beans are emerging from the ground and daylight hours are getting longer.
We once again had a stand at the Frome Potato Day – one of just a small number of Potato Days that appear to have been heldthisyear.Itwasapopularevent with stall holders tightly packed into

the hall; the wet and windy morning gave visitors an indoor event where they could meet with friends and talk about their plans for their plot during the, hopefully, future good growing weather. Wespokewithnumerous visitors about their allotments and
helped with gardening advice. There was, however, a comment made by quite a number of visitors, who were members of associations affiliated the NAS, that they never see the Allotment and Leisure Gardener Magazine. This may be understandable where an association does not have a site hut or trading shed, but may I make a plea
to Association Secretaries, please.
The e-Newsletter, sent to Association Secretaries, includes the link to the latest online Magazine flipbook – could this be forwarded to members, please?
