 42 SOCIAL REPORTS
                                NEWS FROM REAR COMMODORE HOUSE
This is my first article for The Yachter as your newly elected Rear Commodore House and although I’m still finding my feet, I feel well supported by my House Committee Team Members of which we have two newly co-opted members and also the Club House Team at Gins.
So, what’s new? Well, hopefully by the time you’re reading this article you’ll also be able to access The Yachter through our new ‘all singing, all dancing’ website and hoping
you like it and find it useful. We welcome your feedback on anything you’d like us to include or improve. We have a new Flag OfficersTeam too and kicked off ourYear in office with the Commodore’s Drinks Party back in April, enabling Members, old and new, to meet the newly elected Flag Officers and an opportunity for us to get feedback on what Members want from the Club. You may have already seen our members survey too so please, if you haven’t, check it out on the Club’s Website or ask a member of the
Clubhouse team for access.
We’ve mixed it up a bit already following
feedback from Commodore’s Drinks and introduced some themed dining evenings replacing ‘convivials’ with the latest one being a Curry Night which was a huge hit with everyone - of course it helps when you’ve got a House Chef who loves to cook curry and a Club House Team that really entered into the spirit of the night with great music and wonderful decorations! They’re a great opportunity to meet and make new acquaintances and connections. We hope to have some more later in the year – suggestions welcome for themes!
The Big Jubilee Lunch celebrating the
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June was also a terrific success and who knew that our new Commodore could BBQ? We celebrated all afternoon in the sun alongside the beautiful Beaulieu River with an excellent BBQ and food from around the Commonwealth.
Over the summer months new membership steadily increased and members I’ve spoken to are enjoying our offering. I don’t believe we should rest on our laurels, though so we plan to hold an Open Day early next year to promote RSYC and our wonderful facilities on the Beaulieu River, so if anyone is interested in lending a hand on the day please contact me. Date to be advised nearer the time.
As I’ve said our Social Calendar continues to be busy. In June /July/August we had
pre and post RTIR (Round The Island Race) 2022 dinners, a more formal Commodore’s Cocktail Party which is our opportunity to show off our Club at its best to dignitaries and to say thank you to our Race Management Team for their splendid work during CowesWeek. Then the Gins first modern Regatta followed by the very popular Beer Festival.
As the nights start to draw in our Autumn programme provides time for members to
