LOCAL HEROES
...and our second Oundle Life Local Hero...
John Walpole has helped build a rockery at Oundle Surgery and we are most grateful for his hard work and enthusiasm. Mr Walpole was head gardener at Lilford Hall for almost 50 years. He really does deserve to be nominated because he’s truly indomitable and his sense
of community is amazing. The 86 year old, a great horticulturalist, was keen to get stuck in! John made a start straight away reclaiming the flower beds after years of neglect, and thanks to his hard work the project has taken shape within two weeks. For someone of his age, he has very impressive stamina! He is just lovely and he wanted to do a little something for the surgery after all the ‘woes’ of the pandemic. I was honoured to be his gardening buddy.
We surprised John with a £20 gift voucher for BrewBabu and his certificate.
You are truly amazing John, such a kind thing to do, that will be enjoyed by so many attending the surgery. We hope you enjoy our article about your former place of work in this issue.
The first Oundle Life Local Hero for this month is a fabulous delivery driver...
I’d like to nominate Cathy Wenden. She is
a Hermes delivery driver for Oundle and
many of the surrounding villages. Throughout lockdown, Cathy would deliver bits of shopping alongside her parcel route for anybody struggling to get things or for people who couldn’t get to the shops themselves. She takes to social media if a name or address is wrong, to make sure everybody gets their parcels. Cathy even popped over one day to tell me that she’d delivered to my nan that morning and she didn’t quite seem her usual self!
We surprised Cathy with a £20 gift voucher for BrewBabu and her certificate.
That really is going the extra mile for your community, thank you Cathy!
