This past year has been unlike any other, we have all lived and continue to live in unprecedented times where policy decisions which were once unthought of are being made in a moment’s notice.
Working from home has been
the new normal for many and also proved that much can be done with the help of technology. Zoom and Team meetings have become the current vogue and has not only saved travelling time to meetings, but it has also had the indirect outcome of cutting down the greenhouse effect.
After a number of delays in meeting our target date, we changed direction on our RAVC history project in late 2020 and at last we
are making headway with a great effort from Lt Col Chris Ham who is producing the narrative for Volume 3 of the RAVC history. You will see in his article in this edition that Chris Ham stresses on the importance of recording our experiences as they unfold as these will become the references for those who will be conducting their own research for our history in future. As part of his research, Chris is having to review all issues of Chiron Calling and Soldier magazines from 1962 among all the reference documents. We offer a huge gratitude to Chris for his usual enthusiasm, effort and drive in producing the narrative covering the period 1962 to 2020 of the history.
Captain James Bladon’s article on Operation Rescript and Private Colwell’s own account explain the troops’ involvement in providing Military Aid to Civil Authority in helping to run a COVID-19 Testing Centre in Medway, Kent which
shows the diversity that our personnel can
be involved in during times of national need.
There is an interesting article by Mrs Parker-Kiamil about rehoming an ex-military working dog which demonstrates that many of our MWDs find themselves in good homes after their working lives. Senna, the Belgian Malinois has certainly ended up in the perfect home at the P-K family.
We welcome the Colonel Army Medical Services, Colonel Graham Johnson who is based at our Headquarters in Sandhurst and we also welcome his Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Claire Budge RAVC and Rory her Labrador.
We said farewell to ex-RSM Jody Honeywood who is now working for Customs at Heathrow Airport. We wish him and his family the very best on his new career.
We welcome WO1 (RSM) Craig Woodall on his promotion and appointments as the RSM of 1 Military Working Dogs Regiment and also the Representation Sergeant Major for the RAVC. There is a pen picture of RSM Woodall in this edition.
As we progress through the Covid vaccination programme, we hope that we can slowly resume some activities during the Summer months and we are quietly preparing for a Reunion at the
end of June, and it will be good to see as many of our friends serving and retired, families again. All the events will be subsidised by Corps funds to encourage attendance, so book early if intend to attend.
