THRAPSTON AND
RAUNDS ROTARY CLUB
The local Thrapston and Raunds Rotary Club continues to meet, but not as we previously knew it. Like many other groups, our charity fundraising events have had to be cancelled and that has significantly reduced the amount of money that we would usually have raised. Our practical help with the Sailability Charity at Grafham Water, where we help
to launch the boats and get the disabled sailors into them, has also had to stop,
but we are looking to the future. Like many other groups and organisations we are now using Zoom to hold our meetings. We have been organising donations to our local food banks and have made financial donations to Irthlingborough and Raunds Food Banks. We understand that Raunds Food Bank
is now also supporting Thrapston. We are now beginning the process of tentatively planning for the future, with a change of Club President taking place in July at the start of another Rotary Club Year.
  VOLUNTEER ACTION
NEEDS YOU!
During this time of the Pandemic, our volunteers are restricted in the services they are able to offer and none of our drivers over the age of seventy are able to take any passengers. As a result of this, our funding is under pressure, as we are seeing far fewer people and our regular supply of small donations from passengers has diminished.
So we are now recruiting new drivers under 70 WHO WILL TAKE PASSENGERS IN THEIR CARS.
Drivers will be required to take one passenger, seated in the back of the car, for medical appointments only.
A DBS is required, but we are currently accepting existing certificates where they meet the criteria. If you are willing to help and don’t have a DBS, it is possible to be checked by post.
So please, if you are a driver under 70 and would like to help, contact the office at Volunteer Action on 01832275433 and speak to Carolyn. Cllr Diana Charles
Trustee of Volunteer Action
 ANYONE FOR OPERA?
Thrapston Plaza Opera is hoping to perform ‘The Merry Widow’ by Franz Lehar in February 2021.
Auditions were due to take place in June but are now being planned for Sunday 12th July or if public meetings are still not possible people will be asked to submit recordings of their audition pieces by July 26th.
If you are interested, please look on the www.thrapstonplazaoperacom, on Facebook or e-mail thrapstonplazaopera@gmail.com.
As well as singers to fill the main roles we are always pleased to welcome new members to the chorus and to help with set building and stage management.
If you want to be involved we will have a role for you – just get in touch!

CHURCH CLOCK
You may have noticed that the church clock has not been striking.
This is not directly to do with Lockdown. We have discovered that there are worn bearings on part of the mechanism and have been collecting quotes for the repairs. We now have a repairer in mind but will have to wait until we are allowed to open the church again before the repairs can be carried out. Hopefully in due course the clock will be striking again.
Similarly bell ringers are not able to ring bells at the moment but be assured they will be celebrating when they can.
