well as individual entries, as shown left. The shop window advertises tea at 1s 4d per 1⁄4 lb and tinned peaches and pears at 2s 6d and 2s 7d respectively whilst two cigarette machines on the wall to the right have 12 different brands available.
Finally, Chancery Lane with the Manor House Old People’s Home to the right and a solitary dog wandering along the road past an old swan-necked concrete lamppost which is very much of the era. Castle Court apartments now cover this land which, after the Old People’s Home was demolished, stood derelict for many years.
As I have said previously, photographs
taken today could well form a history article of the future. If you see something being demolished, built or altered, take a picture.
It is amazing how quickly we forget how places we knew well just a few years ago have changed or even disappeared. One example, on which I am preparing a short item for this column, is the Thrapston Institute, which used to be in the grounds of the Baptist Church on Huntingdon Road. I have pictures of the exterior but none of the inside. If anyone has any pictures of inside, as well as any memories, I would be pleased to hear from you with, as usual, credit given for the source of material.
