It was at this point Lance Corporal Rowley realised he had messed up...
Unlike the previous 2 weeks, the final week of the season was characterised by sunny skies, cold weather and hard pistes - great conditions for racing. The courses were more technical and significantly longer, adding another dimension to an already difficult week ahead. Regardless, the team logged a number of strong results with Lieutenant Cave finishing in the top 20 in the Slalom and ‘GS’, Lieutenant Callinan in the top 50 across the board and Lance Corporal Hawkins who tirelessly fought rutted courses and routinely beat his bib numbers by up to 40 places. A special mention must go to Lance Corporal Rowley who flew off the largest jump on the Downhill course sideways
Although he came 3rd in the Slalom we assure you Lieutenant Cave won best dressed
with great style and panache and landed. Unfortunately, on his wrist. Lieutenant Callinan’s credit card had to come out for the immediate bill from the hospital for an x-ray and cast.
Simply qualifying a team for the Army championships was a great achievement for the Lancers and was testament to the hard work that all of the members invested into their skiing through- out the season. I cannot stress enough what a pleasure it has been to live and race with such a focused, fun and professional collection of individuals over the winter season.
