WHAT DID YOU GET UP
 TO DURING LOCKDOWN?
One cadet from B Company who is a keen cyclist decided to go out and complete the 215 miles
Trans Pennine Trail. Cadet Sergeant (Sgt) Callum Campbell of Middleton Detachment, set out on the 9th May 2020 set out on what became a 235 miles journey from Southport to Hornsea, which included a 20 mile diversion because of an event at Manchester. He completed the journey in two and half days, seeing some amazing sights along the way.
On Day one, Sgt Campbell travelled 75 miles through Liverpool and Manchester and ended up overnighting in a horse-riding field, in Hyde, Greater Manchester, where the owner kindly agreed to let him camp.
The journey was very enjoyable for me but at the same time very difficult and gruelling
On Day two, he travelled 93 miles, setting off from Hyde, through the Peak District, which he described as “definitely the hardest leg of the journey”. From there he went to the outskirts of Rotherham, followed by Doncaster and then Howden, where he finished for the day at a family friends’ farmland to camp overnight.
On Day three, he travelled the last 67 miles to complete his journey, through Kingston Upon Hull and onto the old Hornsea railway trail which was his last leg.
Callum said: “The journey was very enjoyable for me but at the same time very difficult and gruelling, especially while cycling over the Peak District which just made me want to give up there. However, I powered through and overcame that and it has been one of my greatest achievements. I would highly recommend it to anyone else who is looking for an adventure in cycling”.
Sgt Campbell is also looking at a future challenge. “I am in the middle of planning and training to complete Land's End to John o' Groats as my next milestone in cycling”.
