Although fighting ended in Europe in May 1945, allied troops, including UK, USA and USSR soldiers, were still fighting Japan in East Asia. Once fighting had ceased, Japan had been told to surrender by 26 July 1945 by the Allied Forces. Japan’s Emperor Hirohito confirmed their surrender.
Colonel David Fuller OBE MNM DL deputised for the Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire and AC Ben Atkinson deputised for the Lord-Lieutenant’s (Sea) Cadet, who was unable to attend.
Representing TS Iron Duke were Lt (SCC) Janice Spicer MBE who laid a wreath, CPO (SCC) Freda Cheesman and PO (SCC) Glenn Dinsdale who carried our Standard.
 Lord Mayor of Hull’s Cadet

Kingston upon Hull and
Admiral of the Humber,

The handover ceremony was delayed due to restrictions
but both cadets were able to meet the Lord Mayor at the Guildhall
in Hull, where Ben was presented with a token of appreciation by the Lord Mayor.
