Even better, all ten cadets in the group managed to get two sorties in the air and for all of them it was not just their first flight in the Viking glider but for nine of them the first flight with the RAF Air Cadets.
Corporals George Sharratt and Adam Mir of 58 (Harrogate) Squadron, said, “After waiting over a year to go flying, being able to take control of the glider on our first flight, was one of those moments we will never forget. But it would not be possible without both the help from RAF Syerston's ground and air crew and from two of the volunteers from the Wing who organised the trip, got up at 5 am and transported us back and forth over 200 miles.”
Cadet Flight Sergeant George Griffiths of 2434 (Church Fenton) Squadron said, “Having been a cadet for six years, this was the last opportunity for me, before leaving for University, to enjoy a flight in the Viking glider. Initially not knowing if we were actually going to fly due to the weather, with the support of the amazing staff at the VGS we all managed to fly, and to be honest it was a thrilling experience which

surpassed the expectations of all the cadets.” Cadets Lauren Lewis and Charlie Sanderson of
1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadron said, “We have wanted to go gliding for so long and it was everything we hoped it would be and more. We had an amazing time and we would love to do it again.”
Cadet William Kneeshaw of 110 (City of York) Squadron said, “It was really good and I enjoyed the entire day, especially the launch in the glider. It was a sudden and fun launch and would love to do it again.”
2431 (Keighley) Squadron cadets were not to miss out either and Cadets Mollie Wadsworth and Bradley Wass also enjoyed their first flight and are seen preparing to fly, with both achieving their Bronze Wings badge.
Cadets from 886 (City of Ripon) Squadron were also able to take part in gliding and on one of the hottest days of the summer Corporals Isaac Harrison and Tobias Bennett both managed flights, with Cpl Bennett also achieving his Bronze Gliding Wings.
