The CO’s Cup is a yearly staff competition at DMRC Headley Court. The aim of this event is to build and encourage a strong team ethos between the civilian and military members of the unit. It gives staff a chance to meet other clinicians from other teams and compete in fun competitions while boosting morale. The competition comprises of different events held throughout the year. In 2017 we had 3 events, one comprising of 8 different mini

games such as mini golf, SATS exams and an obstacle course. The second event celebrated Remembrance Day; it gave staff a chance to show their artistic skills by creating a piece of art work inspired by the poppy, these were then displayed around the unit. The last event was a Christmas turkey trot run in fancy dress over 5 kilometres around the local area, with mulled wine and minced pies at the finish line.

On a wet and windy autumn day in September, thousands of local people lined the streets of Dorking to pay tribute to the men and women of DMRC Headley Court.
With the impending transition to Stanford Hall in Loughborough, the parade presented an opportunity for locals to display their gratitude to the staff of DMRC. It must be said that those on parade that day were more than aware that they were representing the staff of past and present who have contributed so much to the rehabilitation of our injured servicemen and women since the end of the Second World War.
With the band of the Household Cavalry setting the pace with the beat of their drums, the 100 plus contingent of soldiers, airman, seamen, and civilian staff that all contribute to the unique care provided at Headley Court, marched in togetherness along the cobbles of Dorking High street. It’s fair to say that the streets were packed, it was great to see not only the older generation but also so many local schools which had also come to show support.
Waiting to inspect and address the parade were Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex
HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux
Lord More-Molyneux paid tribute to Headley Court in a short speech thanking all the regular staff and volunteers for all their commitment to so many people.

He paid comment to the veterans and reminded us of their bravery, he also went on to pay tribute to the schools, cadets, local businesses and people of Surrey that lined the route, suggesting that Dorking high street looked similar to Wembley Stadium due to those waving flags and banners.
In all, it was a fitting day to say goodbye to the wonderful surroundings of Surrey and the communities that have continued to support DMRC Headley Court for so many years.
