The last twelve months continues to see the pace of life at 2 SCOTS remain high and shows no signs of slowing soon. This year began with a deployment on Ex ASKARI STORM, Kenya. Aside from its usual difficulties of dealing with the heat Ex AS was a huge success and capped nicely by some Sport and AT. The 2 SCOTS rugby team took part in the Nanyuki 7’s and lived up to the tag of favourites by winning the tournament by defeating a local team in closely fought and exciting final.
Ex AS also presented the opportunity for eighteen members of 2 SCOTS to take part in Type 3 AT, and some would say a “once in a lifetime” chance, expedition to scale Mount Kenya.
The return from Kenya was followed quickly by a number sporting events; Royal Regiment of Scotland 7’s (hosted by 2 SCOTS), Newlove Cup (football), Dubai tour (rugby), BAWF Finals and Ruegen 70.3 IRONMAN (triathlon). All this prior to stepping into pre-deployment training for three deployments to three different theatres in Cyprus, Iraq and South Sudan.

Whilst soldiers of 2 SCOTS are deployed it hasn’t stopped them seeking out physical challenges. A number soldiers took part in a fund raiser for Forth 2’s ‘Cash for Kids’ charity by cycling, rowing and running 2570 miles (distance of Iraq to Edinburgh). Not to be out done in South Sudan A Company took 1st and 2nd in the coalition 12 miler competition carrying 35lbs.
As this goes to press the Battalion are still deployed however the, ROG continue to keep the fire burning back at Penicuik with B2B training and plenty of sport on the go both hosting events and participating at Company, Battalion and Brigade level.
The following year already has a number sporting tours and lots of L2 AT planned for when the battalion is back at full strength in Penicuik. This will be a welcome period for the men and women of 2 SCOTS before they move back into yet another busy and demanding 2019.
