P. 3
FOREWORD
As this edition goes
to print we are all adjusting to having His Majesty King Charles III as our sovereign, following the great loss of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Several of the stories in this edition celebrate the
momentous occasion of her 70th Platinum Jubilee celebrations across the summer and the fantastic events you all participated in. These, of course, will have been joyous events and ones to remember Her Majesty with affection; remembering her dedication to duty and service to the nation over the last seventy years.
Queen Elizabeth visited Yorkshire on many occasions notably during her Silver Jubilee year in 1977, the Great Yorkshire Show, the opening of the Humber Bridge in 1981 and recently to Hull in 2017, pictured, where she was accompanied by the Lord-Lieu- tenant’s Cadets for the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The King is no stranger to Yorkshire either and he has also visited many locations across Yorkshire, and his visits in the future will be eagerly anticipated, as was his visit to Withernsea during 2013, seen here.
Many superb camps took place across the summer too, including sailing and boating, both ACF counties having to relocate to their own Cadet Training Centres as very short notice and Air Cadet camps all over the
UK and some overseas camps too, where it is clear that the cadets
enjoyed themselves immensely, but importantly the adult volunteers
and permanent staff pulled out all
the stops to ensure that the “Cadet Experience” did not suffer from any disruption. Their stories show a wide variety of activities from shooting
and fieldcraft to flying and gliding, Adventure Training and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions, all
of which look to have been great fun. Enjoy reading about our cadets across the region.
The next edition will feature recipients of Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards and the appointment of our new Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets, watch this space!
Many of the activities mentioned above have also featured on the RFCA website at https://www.rfca-yorkshire. org.uk in addition to their own media channels. Do take a look at the RFCA website too.
Please continue to send, high quality stories and pictures in for the magazine, which makes for excellent reading material, not just around Yorkshire and the Humber, but nationally. A plea though, do look closely at the quality of the pictures being sent with stories; many have been rejected as they were of poor quality or content and would detract from what would otherwise be good contributions. Keep sending your stories and do please note the copy dates below and the guidance notes on submission of articles.
