Chairman’s
comments
Hello everyone!
I am looking forward to my year ahead as the newly appointed Chairman
for the NAS. There is a lot going on
in 2022/23 which will keep us all extremely busy.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish John Irwin the best for the future, thank him for his excellent work as Chairman, and appreciate everything he did during Covid and the lockdowns we endured. All the very best is wished for John and his wife, and we would like to thank her for her support of John during his time as Chair.
The management committee are dealing with many issues, and we work closely with Head Office to achieve as much as possible to preserve, promote and protect allotments in the UK. Receiving the support of the team at
Head Office has enabled me to carry out my many tasks. 2022 saw lots of exciting and challenging moments for the Society.
The passing of her Majesty the Queen was a huge moment for the nation
and for the Society and as our Patron, King Charles III, takes to the throne, I am interested to see what this means for the NAS. The summer was a time for meeting members old and new at shows up and down the country. The Welsh Region attended The Royal Welsh Show for the first time in a decade, during the hottest day on record and
it was a great success. Other regions attended Tatton and Harrogate whilst I was lucky enough to attend Gardeners World Live and Malvern with the West Midlands regional team of volunteers.
...all regions are looking for additional people to help with the running of the regions
We celebrated the 20th year of National Allotments Week which received lots of media interest nationally and locally and saw site around the UK opening their gates to visitors (see page 14 for more).
I am looking forward to my time as Chairman, with Paul Howgill from
the East Midlands region as Deputy Chair. At the moment, all regions
are looking for additional people to help with the running of the regions. There are vacancies in roles such as deputy representatives, mentors, and volunteers for shows. If anyone is interested or wants more information – please contact me or Head Office. Wishing you all well and hope all our members are having a good year down on the allotment.
