OPENING OF THE RIFLES GARDEN
The Rifles are looking forward to the opening of ‘The Rifles Garden’ in Torbay and the chance to reaffirm our Freedom of Torbay on Saturday the 27th of July. Work is well underway, and the planting is about to begin! It is a huge honour for the regiment and reflects the deep connection that runs back through centuries to 1685, forged when the Duke of Beaufort first raised his Musketeers in Devon.
Several of those who will be parading on the day live and work in Torbay,
and the Senior RIFLES Officer, Major General TH Bewick OBE, who will be the regiment’s representative on the day, is himself a Brixham man.
This fantastic regimental occasion will not only celebrate and reaffirm the Freedom of Torbay that was bestowed upon the regiment in 2007 but will also celebrate the opening of The Rifles Garden that we have recently created for us.
Having these gardens named after our regiment gives us an immense sense of pride and will be treasured forever. The garden is a credit to those that designed and created it and reflect many attributes of our regiment, particularly the sharp disciplined design, enduring quality of the sentinel Dartmoor granite, and surrounding vibrant plants that reflect our regimental colours of red, black & green.
Please come and join us with
your families on 27 July and enjoy a performance by The Rifles Salamanca Band and Bugles. Timings to follow shortly within SWIFT ‘Events.’
