MORE STORIES
BOBSLEIGH
I am a serving Rifleman in 1 RIFLES and am in the fourth year of being on the army elite sport programme for bobsleigh, which has allowed me to compete internationally for Great Britain and Trinidad and Tobago (TTO) as a Brakeman.
In 2022 I helped TTO qualify for the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing by competing for them on the North America’s Cup Circuit, and I was subsequently selected as the Push Coach for the Olympic team, becoming the youngest ever international coach at an Olympic Games at the age of 24.
Since then I have returned to the GB
Team to compete but, like all sportsmen, I have suffered a couple of set-backs due to injuries and management issues. Thankfully, in 2023 I came back from injury to win the Inter Services Championships in Lillehammer, Norway posting the fastest brakemen times. This was repeated in 2024 in St Moritz, Switzerland.
Head Coach, Tom Delahunty, commented about my performance in St Moritz, “Tom has been a consistent and loyal brakeman for his army teammate. Tom is an excellent team member regarding physical training, sled work and generally keeping morale high. His start time of 5.16 seconds in the inter service race would have given him the 7th fastest start at the World Cup race that was held on the same track the week before. Starting in the top ten in the world bodes well for the next two seasons. Tom is a highly motivated
individual who has given outstanding service to the army team. The combination of his loyalty, determination and many personal qualities have made him a stylish ambassador for The Rifles.
I hold him in the highest
regard and commend him
to you.”
I am hoping to be on the World Cup circuit this winter and am looking to defending my inter services title again in early 2025. Check out how I get
