One Particular Individual –
An Artist Of Renown
Headstone of William Dreghorn, geologist, archaeologist, artist – and author
Even though this is a book about military burials, an exception has to be made here – no visitor to this
cemetery should leave without paying one’s respects at the grave of William Dreghorn, who died on 29
October 2001. He had a deep love for his adopted country, and his books and watercolour paintings,
especially on the ancient fortifications of St Hilarion and Kyrenia castles, are famous throughout the
island of Cyprus.
French Navy Sailors
Two French sailors are also buried here, having died immediately after the First World War. They are
Matelot Leon Deldizon (died 19 September 1919), from Chalutier Giroflee, and 27 year old Matelot
Timonier J M Bourasseaux (18 February 1919), from Saint Brieuc.
