The War Grave
The only serving military person buried in this cemetery is 6213 Lance Corporal E Abela, of the 1st
Battalion, King’s Own Malta Regiment of Militia (later to become the King’s Own Malta Regiment),
Malta’s only infantry regiment. He had been on garrison duties in Cyprus since January 1915, and he died
there on 7 July 1915. The cause of his death is unknown. His grave is maintained by the Commonwealth
War Graves Commission, and is situated towards the rear on the left hand side, its simplicity contrasting
sharply with the larger memorials around it.
