BRIDGE CLUB
Bidding you welcome
Oundle has quite a large bridge club (currently about 60 members) for the size of the town. This is probably because it is very friendly and attracts players from all over the local area.
Originally, it started in an ad hoc way with
a few players in each other’s homes. Then we formed a club in 1985 and tried the Talbot Hotel, followed by a brasserie at the end of West Street. With growing numbers, we moved to the tennis club house in 1990, but even that could only take six tables (24 people) and when there was a large tournament, we had to borrow the Bowls Club. So the search went on for bigger premises. The chance came when Fletton House was completed in 2015, and now we are comfortable with space in the Glapthorn Room for ten tables or more.
The current chair is Carolyn Henshilwood.
