the entire LEJOG was today at 176 bpm. Mostly rain free and Dartmoor was unusually sunny.
Day 3
To Bath. Some welcomed flat sections, still lots of hills and some lovely sunshine after the morning drizzle.
Day 4
To Ludlow. More sunshine than rain, a beautiful climb through the Malverns.
Day 5
To near Liverpool. The longest day overall, 96 miles. Longest elapsed time 8hrs 56, also lots of rain again.
Day 6
To Penrith. Torrential rain this morning, route
Forth bridge
changed to adapt to the weather. Beautiful climb up Shap pass on the edge of the Lake District. Late finish to catch up some lost mileage and a lovely castle on the route.
Day 7
Into Scotland. Lots of rain all morning that led to a thorough soaking. The climb and descent to Crawfordjohn made it worth it.
Day 8
To Perth. Finally, a DRY day without any rain at all, what a novelty. My wife and son came and cheered us on near Edinburgh. A lovely ride over the Forth Bridge.
Day 9
Into the Cairngorms. Breath-taking views. No rain but a horrible headwind that made
the climb and descent punishing. Re-traced our steps when the road ran out, made up a few miles after.
Day 10
Past Inverness. Multiple punctures from one of the team led to lots of cat and mouse between us and the rest of the group.
Day 11
Longest moving time of the trip at 6 hrs
40. We completed the LEJOG cycle in
11 consecutive days, covering 882 miles and climbing 45,982 feet (for reference,
the Everest summit is 29,029 feet). It felt incredible to reach the end and complete the distance. I am very grateful for my fellow riders and all those involved who made this event happen.
