Dependable front-line workers
During the COVID Outbreak, we expanded our dental support to the community by creating a ‘Dental Problems Self-Help Toolkit’ to help our patients deal with dental emergencies during those difficult times. The patient toolkit was shared with the
rest of our colleagues within DPHC(Dental) overseas teams. We were incredibly proud to find that the tool that we had created was to be included in the broader Defence ‘My Healthcare HUB’ App for the aid of all of our valued armed forces members and their loved ones. Our heroic dental team members also volunteered their time to support front line staff within the healthcare facility to screen patients before entering
the building. Although social distancing has ultimately limited our Oral Health promotions campaigns in the community, we tried to keep the community’s morale high, through generous oral health promotional prizes in our regular community1 newsletters.

It has been another eventful year for the SHAPE Dental Team in Mons, Belgium.
General Tim Redford, the Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) has commended the work of SHAPE Dental Team for offering exceptional dental services to the British Community in SHAPE, Belgium. General Radford made the comments during a visit to the British Dental Department located within the NATO healthcare facility.
The DSACEUR met staff and received in-depth explanations about how the British Dental team operates within the NATO facility, and how we have managed within a short period to introduce vast improvements to the department and the quality of
dental care to our British community. It
was inspiring to meet the DSACEUR and have the opportunity to take him and his entourage on a department tour. At the end of the visit, the DSACEUR presented the
team with ‘DSACEUR Coins’ as a token of his appreciation of our commitment to the community in SHAPE.
On the charity front
The team helped raise a generous amount in support of the ABF, the soldiers’ charity, Cateran Yomp event. The money raising event was in the form of an afternoon
tea party for all the dental NATO teams. Regrettably, Cpl Robinson was not able
to complete the Yomp event as it has
been delayed, because of the COVID-19 outbreak, until June 2021. However, Cpl Robinson had managed to represent the RADC in Exercise Diamond SHAPE in Le Grand-Bornand France, qualifying in SF1 Ski ability just before the COVID outbreak.
Dental nursing support from across DPHC (Dental)
We were fortunate to have the much-valued backing of various regions in the UK and overseas when we had staff shortages. LCpl Walton and LCpl Rose were simply outstanding, and they have enjoyed their
