8th Battalion have created new Company and Platoon locations in Durham, Yorkshire and the Midlands
also provided fantastic support, not only to help forge our identity but also by routinely turning out in force at community engagement events. The community has also embraced the formation of the 8th Battalion which has been a clear and sobering reminder of how important our historic links, forged in blood, are to our recruiting areas.
As this issue goes to press, we will have deployed 120 Riflemen to Northern Ireland and Slovenia to complete their Annual Deployment Exercise, operating alongside the Slovenian Armed Forces and US National Guard mountain troops against the stunning backdrop of Lake Bled and the Triglavski National Park. From these exercises we will
select 15 Riflemen who will deploy on Opera- tional TORAL, in Afghanistan, as part of the 2nd Battalion; an opportunity for our
Riflemen to show their professionalism, commitment and outstanding ability. But this is just the start of the journey; we have made great progress, but we still have a lot to do. The future looks bright and everyone in the Bn from the youngest to the oldest Rifleman and their families should be justifiably proud of where we are and what we will
achieve in the future.
