IT HAS BEEN AN EVENTFUL AND BUSY 12-MONTH PERIOD WITH THE UNVEILING OF A NEW MEMORIAL TO THE KOYLI
The news from the Rifles Light Infantry & KOYLI Association Office in Yorkshire is that it has been an eventful and busy 12-month period with the unveiling of a new memorial to the KOYLI; freedom parades; Victoria Cross (VC) Centenary Stone unveilings; community engagement events and our usual full annual programme of association events.
Yorkshire (N&W) Army Cadet Force (ACF) provided an honour guard as Major (Retd) Andrew Penny KOYLI and LI presented the statuette to Councillor Sandra Pickin, the Armed Forces Champion for Wakefield Metropolitan District Council (WMDC). Also present were the leader of Wakefield MDC the member of Parliament for Pontefract. The statuette will go on permanent display in Pontefract library. Pontefract was the home of the KOYLI Depot in Pontefract Barracks giving the town a 140-year link with the KOYLI that continues today with company headquarters of Y Coy 8 RIFLES based in Minden House. The remaining statuette presentation to citizens of Kirklees will take place later this year in Dewsbury.
