CSM Goodwin brings up the rear of the Freedom Parade through Truro

June 19 by the ROG. An Op TORAL Homecoming Parade will take place in Gloucester on 23 Nov 19.
Sporting performances have continued to be of an exceptional standard; Skiing returned with a good result in Ex FROSTED BLADE over the Christmas break, including some excellent novice performances in the slalom. Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (BJJ) has been a particular success this year, with Cpl Hinds RLC and LCpl Bellingham competing in the European Championship; both will compete at the World Championship in Las Vegas in August 2019. LCpl Ordinando has also tasted significant success at Army level. In Squash, the 1 RIFLES team came second in the Rawsthorne Cup, the Infantry Squash Championships, in Feb 19. LCpl Tooth has excelled in Rugby, representing the Army in both Union and League and playing in the victorious Army teams that beat the RAF in Apr and the Navy in May. In Football, Cpl Wakely has continued to deliver star
performances for the Army and Combined Services sides.
As I look back at my time in command of 1 RIFLES, I am struck at the range of activity the Battalion has undertaken and the outstanding levels of performance achieved across the board. 1 RIFLES can look forward to a stimu-
lating 2020, which includes resubordinating
to 7 Infantry Brigade and a forecast of events
to restore light force warfighting excellence building to Ex ASKARI STORM in early 2021.
On Op TORAL in Afghanistan, as throughout my tenure as Commanding Officer, I continue to be deeply impressed and humbled by the professional conduct of 1 RIFLES’ Riflemen, NCOs and Officers, and reminded of what an immense privilege it is to command such outstanding soldiers.
