B Company Overview
The last year has flown past in a blur of training and operations, as we cycled through the Spec Inf rotation of operations, training and readiness. There is no doubt that we have all learnt a lot about ourselves and grown closer as a team over this busy period. Small numbers have come and gone, but the policy of promoting within the company during training and operations has meant that we have remained as a collective group throughout, albeit teams have worked remotely for much of their tenure. The Spec Inf team is a place for confident leadership and true mission command; B Coy has never lacked this and the teams have been hugely successful in their endeavours across the globe, garnering positive comments from senior officers, diplomats and partner forces.
The 60 Rifleman from B Company have operated in an extraordinary variety of countries over the last 18 months: Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Jamaica, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Tunisia, USA and Kenya. All the teams will have great stories to tell,
many will have earned two medals in a short period of time, and some will have made lifelong friends in foreign countries. As they complete the final part of their first 2-year cycle, they should all be proud of their achievements and are considered true ambas- sadors for The Rifles and Spec Inf. The part I am most proud of as their OC is that B Coy have done it in their own style, as Riflemen, and have never pretended to be something that they are not, even when surrounded by Special Operations Force (SOF) troops from many nations. We earnt credibility through hard work and a professional and humble attitude.
All good things come to an end and we will say goodbye to some key figures at the end of the opera- tional period. However, the beauty of an operational rotation model (ORM) is that it all starts again soon with some new people and fresh energy, and in the spirit of ‘the pursuit of excellence’ we will do it even better next time.
