It only seems like yesterday I was submitting my 2018/19 MBS article and in the blink of an eye another year has flown by. When this article goes to print, I will have sadly moved to my
next venture.
2019/2020 has proven to be an amazing exciting year with lots of achievements and lots more planned. There doesn’t seem to be a day that goes by that 3 DSR don’t seem to amaze me. In my first 18 months the unit achieved so much. I can recall my 2018/19 MBS article showing off the units’ prowess from an adventurous training deployment to Las Vegas. Who would of thought the unit could outdo themselves with managing another adventure training expedition to New Zealand .........WOW.
Their achievements are not solely based around Adventurous Training, they are also talented in the sporting arena, having successfully completed the relentless 100km Trailwalker 19, in 12 hours 15 minutes, placing the team in an astonishing 7th out of 144 teams.
Further entering a scratch team into the annual Race to the Sun event in York.
For the second year running the unit have entered the hardest patrol course in the world the renowned arduous Cambrian Patrol. However, this year they successfully went from achieving a bronze in 2018 to a silver in 2019. All units stand by as 3 DSR are gunning for Gold in 2020. If that wasn’t enough, they out performed almost all team entries to the Lanyard Trophy 40 Miler Carrying 30Ibs (Self Navigation) achieving 6th out of 31.
In May 2019 the Unit also welcomed their Colonel in Chief the Princess Royal.
The unit’s appetite for work hard; play hard is relentless, however, nobody at 3DSR would have it any other way. Coming into my last year I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything like it and looking at the months ahead I’m excited by future new projects. I have enjoyed my time serving with, in my opinion the number 1 unit in the British Army.
