 34 SOCIAL REPORT
NEWS FROM REAR COMMODORE HOUSE
The year started in splendid fashion with two excellent events; our traditional Burns Night in January, followed by a Beer Tasting in February – read reports of these great occasions elsewhere in the magazine.
Sadly, with COVID-19, we had to call a halt to the rest of our Social plans. It was such a huge disappointment not to be able to hold our 4th July Summer Party, which would have been a wonderful affair. However, by early July restrictions were being lifted, and on the day, Lauren was able to offer her now legendary pizzas and a great barbecue, which were enthusiastically enjoyed by many.
During the height of lockdown, we stayed in touch with our Members with our special weekly Summer Bulletins. With these we hoped to offer support, as well as inform
and entertain you. I would like to take this opportunity to give a big ‘Thank you’ to all those who made contributions, your articles,
quizzes, photos, poetry, jokes etc certainly helped lighten the day.
Emerging from lockdown really made me appreciate how privileged we are to have Gins as our Clubhouse, with its fabulous setting and the warm welcome offered
by Lauren and her staff. It has also been a pleasure to see this recognised by others, with the many new Members we have gained, surpassing our expectations. I would like to offer them all a particularly warm welcome.
Looking forward, we have put together what we hope you will think is an attractive calendar of social events, with something to appeal to everyone; more details will appear
in our regular Social Bulletins, as usual. Wishing you good health and happiness. Hope to see you at Gins!
