speech by our Commodore, followed by the toast to the ‘Immortal Memory’ of Robbie Burns.
Various entertainments followed, a selection of Scottish ballads and recitations; we were all very taken with Ian Ward’s rendition of ‘Comin’ thru’ the Rye’.
These finished with Brian Verstage’s reading, to the ladies in general, but to his wife Helen in particular, of ‘My Love is like a Red, Red Rose’, culminating with him presenting her with just that, her very own red rose, at this point an assistant (Rachel) passed to him a bunch of roses enabling him to give one to each of the ladies present.
This was followed by a ‘Toast to the Lassies’ by Robin Funnell to which the reply, on behalf of the lassies, was given by Rear Commodore House, Helen Verstage.
When the entertainment was over, our Commodore once again rose to his feet and thanked us all for coming, with a final toast to the RSYC, followed by everyone joining in to sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
What a splendid evening!
An evening which we all enjoyed and will certainly be keen to repeat next year, so assuming COVID-19 is by now on its way out, do book now!
