The view taken in 1990 is of the path to the side entrance to Thrapston Primary School on Market Road, just as building work on houses off Wainwright Avenue was starting. The track led to fields which have now become a
large area of housing extending from
Market Road, along Huntingdon Road
and on the town-side of the A14 to the
old Midland Road railway station. The
school entrance is still recognisable
in this 2023 photo but all traces of the
fields are now long gone. The original photograph is courtesy of the late Fred
and Daphne Faux.
The cast iron post dated 1848 is at the entrance to The Slabs on High Street. This passageway is between The Fox public house and Auburn Fox shop and leads to St James’ Churchyard. The post is not original but a relatively recent re-creation. The Cottingham
mosaic sign was at the entrance to Edwin Cottingham’s clockmaking shop at 2 High Street. Now Delicious take-away, the mosaic is no longer and is now just a memory on a

I have been photographing Thrapston and district over the forty years we have lived in town. All of the original photos in my January article were taken during this period of time, thus proving that
even relatively recent changes to the fabric of our community are quickly forgotten.
