The night navigation serials greatly enhanced our map reading capabilities and overall confidence where we proved our ability to cover ground with limited visibility and fewer reference points.
The first five weeks culminated in the drill test which we passed before enjoying our first week- end of rest. Colonel Winser and Maj Harle kindly organised an affordable cultural visit to London with the aim of allowing us to experience this beautiful capital and allowing us to explore some of the key landmarks. This trip was a much- needed breath of fresh air, entertainment, and recharge following weeks 1-5.
The 36-hour Ex LONG REACH was one of the toughest challenges in my life given the circum- stances under which we had to keep moving:
extreme cold, wind, and rainy weather while covering around a 72km distance on foot while carrying a heavy Bergan.
Nevertheless, this was also one of my most rewarding training experiences. It taught us how important teamwork, coordination, and personal responsibility is when striving to reach our goal as a team.
The final exercise of term took place in a frosty Thetford Training Area, which tested our ability to put into practice all the things taught during the tactical module of the Junior Term. Ex MONT- GOMERY’S MARK tested us in Section Attacks, Platoon Battle Drills, Recce Patrols and Deliber- ate Attacks and was a fine end to the first term at Sandhurst. We now turn our attention to prepar- ing for the Sovereign’s Parade and the move to New College.
Last, but not least, I would love to thank you dearly for allowing me to share my overall expe- rience as an international student in hopes of keeping up the good work and determination to complete the Commissioning Course proudly and successfully on the 11th August 2023.
