Anyone for tennis? Then come and join us...
Tucked away behind the Meadows Surgery and the Nene Valley Surgery is a hidden gem, Thrapston and District Tennis Club.
Thrapston and District Tennis Club was created due to three ladies (Mrs Loveday, Mrs Cheney and Mrs Cawdell) who had a vision and a passion for tennis. The tennis club started on Grove Road but moved to Meadow Lane in 1968 with a wooden pavilion as the clubhouse.
The club has continued to develop. It now has excellent facilities which include four all weather flood-lit tennis courts, a modern clubhouse with men’s and ladies’ changing rooms, a social room and a kitchen. Members have the use of a practice wall and ball machine to brush up on their skills when playing alone.
This small friendly club provides numerous opportunities to play tennis either competitively or socially with club tournaments, ladders and league matches in the East Northants Summer Tennis and Northampton Lawn Tennis leagues.
The club was very grateful to receive a grant from the East Northamptonshire Council Communities Facilities Fund last summer. The

generous donation was put towards the costs of renovations, including a new veranda floor, paving stones and replacement court lighting.
Although the COVID lockdowns have adversely affected the ability of members to play tennis, we are very much looking forward to being able to hold social events such as fish and chips suppers outside in the balmy summer months when rules permit.
Thrapston and District Tennis Club has something to offer everyone from beginners to experienced players with players ages ranging from four to 70. The club holds Men’s nights on Mondays, Ladies’ nights on Tuesdays, Club and Junior nights on Wednesdays. There is coaching available which includes adult beginners, cardio as well as holiday tennis camps run by R2R Tennis.
