                                Being distanced from the day-to-day
work of the Club carried out by the
General Manager, her staff and the Club’s elected officers, the Guardians can turn
their attention to issues such as the long- term sustainability and direction of the
Club, including the extent to which it
can meet the requirements of current and potential future members and enhance their experience, while ensuring new pressures and challenges can be anticipated and addressed. Two specific issues are currently under discussion. The first is identification
of what is required to protect, sustain and develop the Gins clubhouse as a long-term asset of the Club. The second is to endeavour to identify the conditions under which
the club might at some point consider it appropriate to establish a second base for members following our departure from Ocean Village.
Additionally, protection of Members’ interests extends to the entitlement of Guardians to challenge the Executive and,
if they consider it necessary, to call an EGM of members, in the event of a proposal by the Executive Committee to commit a large sum of money (£100,000 or more) to an initiative, or if they wish to take forward a proposal which would materially affect the future of the Club.
Queries and concerns from Members are typically best addressed to the Commodore or the appropriate Rear Commodore,
but the Guardians also provide an avenue through which Members are welcome to express ideas and opinions or seek clarification. They can be contacted at guardians@rsyc.org.uk
The involvement and enthusiasm of our Members and the commitment of those who give their time to serve as Committee members and Flag Officers is the bedrock on which the Club is built. The Guardians’ prime motivation comes from being in a position to support all those who contribute to making RSYC such a friendly and vibrant Club.
