with the St Peters Wildlife group who maintain the wildflower area. Expanding the scope of our wildflower planting around Council spaces in Oundle is an important future project.
One of the biggest challenges they have faced was the renovation of Fletton House. On top of their normal day to day work around Oundle, John and Nobby had to get it ready for the refurbishment, which included totally clearing the building out. They were also responsible for fitting out both kitchens; installing the units in the Glapthorn Room and Oundle Suite; fitting out the dance studio with ballet bars; building the Hub café area and fitting all the blinds in the building. The continued use of Fletton House after the COVID-19 pandemic will be a visible testament to all of that work.
One plea from both is to look after what we have, and make sure we all look after it. “There’s nothing quite so demoralising as litter picking

one day in, say, the Pocket Park or the Skate Park, to find we have to do it again the next day. To help us help Oundle, we would both ask all residents to make sure that they use the litter bins provided, or take their rubbish home” says John.
“We’re very lucky to have had a lot of investment in the Estate recently” says Nobby, referring to the Skatepark and Snipe Meadow especially; “it seems important that we all look after it, so we can pass it on to the next generation of residents in good condition”.
The task of running the town’s estate on a tight budget as the public purse has tightened has been challenging, and may no doubt increase with the possibility of more services being divested to Oundle Town Council under the new unitary authority. Oundle is very fortunate to have John and Nobby’s wide ranging experience on hand to face the next few years.
