                                OUNDLE MUSEUM
Fun for children
Visiting children are very important to the Museum and we have an area dedicated to welcome them, which is an activity room cleverly integrated into the main room of the Museum. Each year the room is different and themed by a very talented member of our Committee to fit with the main exhibition. We also have either a detective trail children can have a go at or a quiz.
We have dressing up clothes for children to wear; pictured above are some from 2009 ‘Georgian Oundle’.
In the past we have had scarecrows, an air raid shelter, a ticket office for the railway station, and archaeological activities such as making Roman Mosaics’ amongst many others. There
is always something different to see. We always have our resident ‘prisoner’ too in the cell upstairs.
The air raid shelter was particularly interesting and fun for the children. The themed exhibition was about 1940’s Oundle. We also had some weighing scales on display so children could see exactly what the ration of 2oz of sweets looked like.
Our theme in the Museum at the moment is ‘Trades and Traders’ and of course there were
toy shops in Oundle in the past, so toys have featured in the children’s area this year. We hope to be able to open this year at some point, so please watch out for information on our website and facebook pages.
