RJA&HS Trust Fund, approved by the council, president and chief officers of the Society – in recognition of all the hard work and dedication shown by plotholders at the Country Gardens and the benefits an allotment gives to the wellbeing and education of all those concerned.
The order was placed for the tool stores at the end of June, with the plan that they would be erected in early August. In accordance with the planning approval, the tool stores have been constructed on each plot and placed in pairs adjacent to the fence to reduce the visual impact. All went according
to plan, with everything arriving on
the Island on time and according to schedule. The individual parts of the tool stores were delivered to the site
on separate pallets, the contractors then assembled each tool store and each one was transported to each plot and secured to the base (that had been placed on four paving slabs and levelled on each plot). Finally, the roof panel
was felted and placed on top of the tool store and secured.
The Society is providing a tool store
as part of the infrastructure and continued investment in the Country Gardens. The horticultural committee are currently reviewing the terms and conditions of the licence for the site to include the tool stores, to confirm the responsibilities to maintain the tool stores to the required standard (as detailed on the planning approval). The tool stores will be maintained in the same colour in which they are supplied. Plotholders are encouraged to attach guttering to the front of the tool store to facilitate for the collection of water. All concerned are really pleased with the outcome, so now all plotholders have a secure tool store to store all their tools and other gardening equipment.
To help reduce the visual impact of the tool stores and to act as wind breaks either side of the site, the Society has planted over 200 indigenous hedgerow
the Society also replaced the rabbit fencing on three sides of the site and re-sited the gates
trees which are developing really well. During 2022 the Society also replaced the rabbit fencing on three sides of the site and re-sited the gates to individual plots on the north side of the plots, in line with the locations of the new tool stores.
