Royal Welsh Show Llanelwedd 2023
Well, this was our second year at
the RWAS but we appeared under
a different format this year. The difference was that the horticultural tent was not running for 2023. We decided to book a trade stand this year and it meant we had to purchase a fire retardant gazebo, or rather, two. The cancellation of the horticultural marquee was a late option. We had
to rush to purchase the gazebos and tables and arrange delivery of our new membership forms and other documents which we had had translated into Welsh.
Our volunteers erected the gazebos for the very first time. We put them up fairly quickly and proceeded to kit them out with all our leaflets and signage.
Other volunteers who attended on the Monday and Thursday were Cath Peasley (regional treasurer) and Kate Rolt (the organiser of our annual photographic competition), both of whom produced the photographs and displays. Sorry, there are no photos of these wonderful ladies – we were ships that passed in the night during the show and didn’t manage to get a snap of them!
I would like to thank Kings Seeds for their most generous donation of giveaway seed samples, which went down very well with the show attendees.
SHOW VOLUNTEERS
Terry Walton’s On the Plot podcast was available on BBC Sounds. Terry has been the judge on our photographic contest for the last two years; he
was introduced to us through our committee member, Tom Beedle
All in all, I have to say the Royal Welsh had a good attendance this year as always. We had a good flow of people by our stand and quite a bit of interest in what we did. We had two members join at the show and a number of interested associations made contact. There was a considerable interest in the model allotment put together by Angela Winwood. There
was a lot of dismay that the horticulture marquee was not present this year, and a number of growers who prepared for the show were extremely displeased; having said that, we hope next year will be bigger and better.
